It’s been well understood by many of the greatest minds, writers, and philosophers of the world that our perspective of the world largely determines what we get out of it. Even the ancient writings of the Bible are clear about this: “Seek, and ye shall find”. So what keeps us from seeing good in the world? What keeps us from seeing possibility, opportunity, new beginnings, better endings, or even the love that’s all around us but sitting right under our nose? It comes down to the fact that we believe the lies that stifle and suffocate us. We believe there is no way out, no way things can change, and that there is no hope. Lies are an interesting paradox, because they have to show you a bit of truth, usually a broken and warped truth, in order to make the lie believable. But they also have to blind you to the real truth of what is really out there. And the most ironic part of it all, is that lies only have the strength they have in our lives because we allow them to. We decide what we believe in. We may not realize it but it’s true. Whether it’s faith or fear, we decide which to lean into. So how can we grow into seeing the truth in our lives everywhere we go? It starts with questioning the lie. Look for sources that challenge the beliefs you have and show you ways to overcome those lies. And if you find a stronger or more empowering belief, borrow it, and when you hear those lies playing back in your head, remind yourself of the new truths you’re learning. Believe them even if you don’t see changes automatically. Over time you’ll see that those truths become part of you, and everything around you starts to change.
